Mr Paul Serhal - ICSI and IMSIICSI and IMSI

Intracyoplasmic sperm injection

ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is a specialist technique where we inject the partner’s sperm directly into the egg. We commonly use this technique when the sperm to be used is not optimal, whether this is low ‘motility’ (its ability to swim towards the egg) or any other factor.

The ICSI treatment cycle is very similar to the IVF cycle, except that fertilisation is achieved in a different way. Similar to IVF, a range of procedures and tests will be completed throughout the cycle to ensure that fertilisation is progressing in the best possible way to give you the best chance of conceiving.

Intracytoplasic morphologically selected sperm injection

IMSI (intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection) is a new technique we use to aid the sperm selection for fertilisation.

This technique uses high power magnification to visualize inside the sperm, allowing our specialists to pick the sperm with the highest chance of achieving a successful fertilisation.

This technique is particularly important in cases of repeated IVF failure where we undertake sperm DNA fragmentation analysis. DNA fragmentation occurs when there is an alteration or a break in one of the DNA strands inside the sperm itself and can affect the possibility of a successful pregnancy.
